How To Apply Blush The Right Way, Summer 2010
The rules for applying blush have come a long way since its invention. Women went from wearing it in a distinct circle on the apples of the cheeks, to wearing it up into their hairline, and even to wearing it so barely there or so dark it was almost useless. Applying blush can be easy, flattering, and even fun, however! It just takes knowing the latest fashions, your own skin tone, and how to apply it so that it looks tasteful and flattering, not tasteless and embarrassing.
Deciding on a blush is at least half the battle of the blush problems. Many experts say to try and match your blush color to the color of your natural cheeks after you have been exercising or when you’re flushed with embarrassment. Another good tip is to try and match the color to your lips, or just go with your skin tone. Dark skin likes reds and apricots, and fair skin is better with rose and peach.
The final half of the battle is applying it correctly. It is important first of all to get a brush that is appropriate for your face. Use a full size blush brush to get the maximum coverage, and apply the brush only to the apples of your cheeks. NEVER blend the blush up into your side burns or hair line, as this can make the face look unnaturally stretched and lengthened, and also look funny when your hair is the color of your blush. Go for a natural, healthy glow.
