Eyeshadow Tutorial

Eyeshadow Tutorial Using Antique Jade and Night Sky Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Singles

The name of this tutorial is a bit of a mouthful, but the look is fairly simple. It is a look that can be dramatic or more toned down, depending on your lip color and what you do foundation and blush wise.

The things that you will need for this look are: a good eyeshadow brush (doesn’t have to be expensive), an eyeliner brush, Antique Jade (or another high-pearl green eyeshadow or other color of your choice), Night Sky (or another matte black or extremely dark grey), eye primer (L.A. Colors Liquid Concealer, albeit not a proper eye primer, works really well with these eyeshadows), and mascara of your choice.

First, take your green eyeshadow and eyeshadow brush and apply the eyeshadow on your lid and up into the crease. You can go past a little bit, but keep it far from the brow bone. Apply about three layers, or however many it takes to make the eyeshadow start to pop.

Next, take one little swipe of your black, put it in the crease and blend WELL. Instead of showing up black, it should look like a dark green. If you added too much, use a little bit of green on top and see if that helps. Add a little bit more green to your lid also.

When you’re done, take your eyeliner brush and the black eyeshadow and apply it from the outer corner of your waterline inward until you’re about 3/4ths of the way to where your tear duct is. Stop. Wipe your brush clean and then pick up a little bit of the green. From the inner corner on your waterline, take the green and brush it into the black. You should have 1/4th green and the rest black. Then take a little bit more green and put it right under the black and bring it up back into the green. And then, voila!

Nude lips don’t look right with this. Try using a pink that goes well with your skin color, or blending a bright red with a lighter pink for a more dramatic look.

NYC Smooch Proof Long Wearing Lip Color

NYC Smooch Proof Long Wearing Lip Color

I was looking for a lipstain when I found this product. I have pale lips that are causing me a few problems—namely that my mom would look at me and tell me to go eat immediately. I have a very minor case of hypoglycemia and pale lips used to be an indicator my sugar was dropping. Needless to say, this aggravated me because I was fine and had just eaten when she told me to go eat AGAIN. So lipstains it was.

Or so I thought. Honestly, the ideas of lipstains scared me. I’m willing to try anything with eye makeup, but when it came to lips, I usually wore way too bright red lipstick. True, it was a good shade of red, and looked great on me, but it wasn’t good for daily use. So when I saw NYC, a company I am familiar with, especially in the lip color department (the company I found my red lipstick with.), I jumped at the opportunity to take a look.

The product has two ends. One has lip gloss with a brush while the other has the lip color with a lipgloss applicator. The lip gloss kind of made me flinch for a second. I hate lip gloss. It’s goopy and sticky and I hate it. It makes my hair stick to my lips and looks way too shiny and I hate it. Did I mention I hate it? All joking aside, I was also worried about the product color. The only one that looked close to my shade was a bright pinkish color. So I tried it.

First of all, I love the lip gloss. It hasn’t converted me to a lip gloss wearer, but it’s as smooth and slick as my favorite lip balm and my hair only gets stuck in it occasionally, and not usually after it dries a little. The applicator could be better but the texture of the lip gloss makes up for it. It helps to seal in the color too, even after the shine fades away.

I liked the colors too. The first one I tried was 481 “Dreamer”. Even though it appeared to be a bright pink, it was a little bit more muted and worked well with my coloring (pale. Very pale.). I liked that color enough to buy 483 “Heartbreaker” which is a darker pink. It worked even better with my coloring and is most likely going to be my primary lip color.

There are a few drawbacks, however. If you use lip balm under or over this or both, it will fade quite quickly. On the flip side, if you have dry lips, the color will pill and look clumpy and gross. The trick is to have well moisturized lips without using a whole bunch of lip. My suggestion is to try one day on and one day off. Alternate with your favorite lip balm because, despite its benefits, this lip color is rather drying.

Having a Makeup Bag is a Must

Having a Makeup Bag is a Must

When it comes to makeup, chances are you won’t just stick to one set of shades and colors. You want variety and you want something different for every occasion. This can cause confusion and sometimes you may misplace items or forget you even own them. A good way to manage this if you wear a lot of makeup is to have a makeup bag.

Keep essentials in every makeup bag

Remember that you have already applied your makeup on at home, and the last thing you want to do is carry your entire kit with you. The point of your makeup bag is so that you have the tools to touch up your makeup. Make a habit of only putting in the things that you are wearing, and avoid putting in others for fear that you may need it later on.

Cosmetic organizers

This is every girl’s makeup life made easy. They are designed especially to carry your makeup essentials. There is a special compartment for everything and they are a decent size so you can carry them in your bag with no trouble. Further than that they are available in a variety of types. Some may be specialized for those who only use eye makeup and some lipstick, or for those who use lots of foundation and powders. You will generally be able to find them at any good cosmetic store.

Maintaining your makeup bag

Whether you are using a cosmetic organizer or packing your own makeup bag you have to maintain it. The easiest way to do this is to keep your makeup organized at home. Make sure you keep track of expiry dates. Throw away what is old and what you have used up. Every time you buy a new item throw one away. This will prevent overcrowding.

Queen Helene The Original Mint Julep Masque Review

Queen Helene The Original Mint Julep Masque Review

One essential part of being able to apply makeup neatly is having clean, smooth skin. Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque provides just that for those suffering from oily or combination skin.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

First, the packaging is pretty simple. It is an eight ounce tube (or perhaps less if you are purchasing the kind that doesn’t have the bonus extra 33%) that is white, except for a wide stripe of green in the center that is a gradient. The product name and description appear in black lettering in the green, and a small gathering of scribbles are located on the bottom of the green stripe. At the very top is “Bonus 33% More” in white lettering and the Queen Helene signature in red right below that.

How well does this product work? Well, pretty darn well. You apply it all over your face (and optionally your neck). You can use a thin layer or a slightly thicker layer. There is no need to cake this on. For me, it takes about 3 inch long squirts. One for each cheek and one to get the rest of my face and take care of any areas I felt were too thinly covered. I have combination skin and large pores on my nose and chin, and blackheads on my nose chin and cheeks. This masque shrunk them and made the blackheads ten times less noticeable! I’d been using Noxzema and was pretty greasy at the time because of it but this helped to hold the oilies at bay.

A note: Don’t shower immediately after this. If you do, it will open your pores right back up again. I discovered this the first time I tried the Mint Julep Masque. There was a large difference still, but its effects were lessened. However, it WAS quite a good change and I was excited to find something that worked after using products that didn’t. The next time, I tried applying it the next morning and the effects have lasted days longer. I’m not sure how long it can last, but I’m on day three and my pores still look fairly small. Also, don’t OVERUSE it. If you do, this can cause a breakout in itself. Once or twice a week is enough and only for fifteen minutes each go round.

Red Lipstick, The Most Appealing Lip Color On Earth

Red Lipstick, The Most Appealing Lip Color On Earth

Girls from all over the world look to be more attractive by changing their hair, clothes or by adding a little makeup to enhance their features. Red lipstick is something that every girl dreams of wearing but often lacks the confidence to do so. If you find yourself in this boat and are considering taking the plunge then learn more about it.

Scarlett Johansson’s Red Lip Makeup

What makes red so special?

Red lipstick is associated with confidence and sexiness, and is often seen being worn by famous movie and music stars. It is something that has been around for decades and will probably never go out of fashion. It is a color that every girl should have in her makeup bag.

Choosing your shade

Red lipstick comes in hundreds of different shades, and the reason for this is what suits one woman may not suit another. Whether you go for a lighter or a darker shade will depend on a number of things. Brighter reds are good if you have fair skin or olive skin. Darker shades are fine if you have fair skin with dark hair, olive skin or dark skin. It will also depend on the look you are going for. If you want that sexy look then a deep red is good, and if you are just looking for a more casual red then darker shades are good.

Applying red lipstick

Red lipstick can’t just be put on like other colors. This is because mistakes with this color are easily noticeable. The first thing you need to do is find a lip liner that matches the shade of the lipstick and outline your lips. Then take a brush and apply the lipstick carefully. This will give you a smoother and more even look. You can apply a second coat for that extra polished look.

Foundation Faux Pas

Foundation Faux Pas

We’ve all seen it – the woman walking down the street with an orange face and VERY light skin, believing she looks tan, or the woman who is tan wearing foundation that is just a little too light, making her look like a geisha girl. What you may not know is that it may not be her fault, however. Many women struggle with finding and applying foundation correctly on a daily basis, and its cause is a lack of knowledge. With understanding a few faux pas of foundation you can be a pro and avoid embarrassment in no time.

One of the biggest faux pas of foundation buying and wearing is finding the wrong shade. For help with this problem, bring along a friend, a camera, and some common sense. If possible test the foundation on the back of your hand or on a small part of your face. Take a picture of yourself and get an opinion from your friend, then look at the picture. If you look like either example mentioned above, correct your course appropriately. Another huge faux pas is that of applying foundation with your fingers – this is embarrassingly damaging to your look and your skin. The oil from your fingers will mix with the chemicals in the foundation and cause oily, greasy, and very unattractive looking skin. Always use a professional style makeup applicator or sponge to get an even coverage with no oily places and no splotchiness. In general, taking a picture of yourself and being honest as well as smart about buying your foundations can help many of the faux pas you may suffer from.
