Mascara in Purple

Hot Topic – Mascara in Purple

Hot Topic is a chain store that sells clothing, accessories, and makeup for those on the darker end of the spectrum. However, when shopping there, one thing that caught my eyes a few years ago was their mascara. They have everything from teal to purple, which is the color I will be reviewing.

I didn’t use makeup all that much when I first bought this, and I was a bit displeased with the results. What I didn’t know was that the color was showing up—quite well in fact. My lashes were already dark enough that I just couldn’t tell.

Now, a few years later (I know what you must be thinking. EWWW!) I still have that same tube of mascara. The tube itself is rather small. It is a little over a centimeter wide and about three and a half inches long, perhaps four. But this is not meant to be an everyday product, because of its color. The applicator is rather big and makes for good, even application. If you have any clumps, you can brush them off with the applicator without having to deal with a lot of extra color.

The color itself is pretty decent. Being that my lashes are darker, as mentioned before, I didn’t notice it. This purple isn’t very vibrant, but you see what you get pretty much. I have not tried any of the other mascaras in other colors and so I do not know about their results. This color will show up a lot better on those with brown or blonde lashes. It doesn’t add loads of volume, but enough to make your eyes look open and wide awake. It doesn’t make your lashes all that hard either. There is a tiny bit of stiffness, but not so much that you’re scared they’ll fall off.

I might purchase this again in a different color. Kind of looking forward to checking out that teal color.

Applying Eyeliner, Makeup Tips 2010

Applying Eyeliner, Makeup Tips 2010

Applying eyeliner can be a bit tough. There are a few things to do to help you learn how best to apply your eyeliner and other things that you can do to make your eyeliner look better.

1. Make sure that you use powder if you have oily skin. Apply the powder on top of your eyelids and under them before putting on eyeliner. This will allow you to make your eyeliner stick without running down your face.

2. Thickness. Don’t put the eyeliner on too thick. A 1/8th of an inch is just enough, although a little bit less never hurts. Also keep in mind that if you are lining the bottom of your lash line, it should stay small, no matter what you do with your top lash line.

3. Make sure that your liner is sharpened. This helps you to control the thickness of the line and to make sure that you don’t smudge or make any other mistakes.

With these things in mind, here is how you apply eyeliner.

First, take your eyeliner pencil, cream and brush, etc, and close one eye. Make sure that you have a clean mirror so that you are able to easily see exactly what you’re doing. Start at either the middle or the inner corner of your eye. Very slowly, using small, controlled strokes, make a thin line from one end of your lash line to the other. You can thicken it if you wish, but be careful to keep it even. For your bottom lash line, start at the inner corner as above and follow just above your lash line. Continue as at the top.

Hard Candy Lash Tinsel Voodoo Review

Hard Candy Lash Tinsel Voodoo Review

I had seen and heard of this product a few times and wanted to give it a try. I’d heard reviews that it was clumpy, wasn’t much sparkle, etc. However, I was determined to make it work if I had that experience.

The packaging is really pretty. It has a delicate design and the tube is rather thick. There is also a bit of rubber in the tube that takes off extra product. I may remove this and see if the results change. So far, I have only put it on over top of my purple mascara and wasn’t really impressed with the results. It is clumpy and hard. I tried to separate my eyelashes with a tooth pick afterwards and the result was still rather clumpy. There looked like there was quite a bit of product on the brush, and I’m certain it got on my lashes—I’m just not too sure that it is in a position where it can catch the light and give you the sparkle. The reason I say this is because when I checked the mirror a few minutes later and noticed one sparkle. Just one sparkle. One tiny, measly, pretty little sparkle.

Next time, I think that I will try to limit the mascara to the very tips of my eyelashes and see how that goes. Or perhaps find a different applicator with longer bristles. I’m not sure what the result would be on naked lashes, but I guess I shall see later.

After Reapplication: I tried to put a few coats on my lashtips and had fairly good results in the sunlight according to my mom. However, the result was still very clumpy. When separating it, I lifted my eyelashes with it and saw a LOT of product. It was just hiding under my lashes.

I tried it in my hair just for kicks and noticed a definite sparkle there. It made my hair kind of hard, but still rather manageable. I also noticed a little bit of sparkle in my eyebrows when I tried it there, but nothing overdone.

This might work if you curl your lashes, but I’m not entirely sure. I may or may not buy this again—maybe in a different color, since I already have dark lashes and the glitter is rather dark. This might last me a while, though.

Eye Shadow Tips for Bringing Out Deep Set Eyes

Eye Shadow Tips for Bringing out Deep Set Eyes

Deep set eyes can be a pain to put makeup on in order to make them seem less deep set. Using eye shadow in the wrong way can make eyes look even more closed off rather than open and shallow set. There are many tips and tricks, however, to use makeup to your advantage to help your eyes stand out rather than sink in, and bring out the best in your eyes.

The first tip when using makeup to your advantage to combat deep set eyes is to avoid using dark colors on the brow bones of your eyes – this will just make them look more deep set and less shallow. Brushing a deeper shadow color just above your eye’s crease – this brings out the natural contours of your eyes without sinking them in deeper, by using contrast. Using mascara generously on both the top and the bottom lashes can do wonders for opening up the eyes and helping them look more shallowly set. Only apply eyeliner thinly and without a thick, chunky look to them – this can make the eyes look too heavy and deep set and can do the opposite of what you need it to.

There are a few things to avoid when trying to bring out deep set eyes. One is avoiding very dark eye shadows on the brow bones of your eyes. Another is using shimmer and glitter on these brow bones, which can make the eyes look too much deeper set than necessary. If you are using any glitter or shimmering eye shadows, use these in the crease or just above the lashes of the eyes.

How to Use Green Eyeshadow

How to Use Green Eyeshadow

Green eyeshadow is generally seen as a color that is only used with brown eyes, or overly dramatic makeup. But the fact is, you can use green eyeshadow no matter what color your eyes are—it’s all in finding a color for your eyes and what shape.

First of all, look at your eye color. If you have blue or green eyes with a brown starburst around the middle, you can pull off darker greens. If you have light blue or gray eyes, try looking for a soft green as opposed to something bold.

Then there’s how you wear it. If you have slanted eyes, then use a light washing of green eyeshadow on your lid and a little more on your crease for definition. (You can use a darker green for the crease if you want.)

For almond shaped eyes, pull out the black matte eyeshadow as well. Put on a generous amount up into the lid and blend upwards into the crease. Use a tiny amount of black eyeshadow and blend into the green in the crease. You should have a little bit of definition without a whole bunch of darkness.

For round eyes, use a very light, almost silvery green on your lids and something slightly darker in the crease.

If you have very protuberant eyes, then be careful to blend your crease very, very well.

Once you’re done applying your eyeshadow, use a little bit of black or dark brown eyeshadow or eyeliner on your bottom waterline. If you want to tightline (apply eyeliner on the top waterline), you can do that as well. It’s entirely up to you and what you think looks best.

Kim Kardashian’s Makeup Look – What Sets Hers Apart

Kim Kardashian is one of the most talked about celebrities in Hollywood today, and for good reason. One of the things she’s talked about for is her usually flawless makeup look on the red carpet at Hollywood events. Getting Kim’s look doesn’t have to be difficult, however. In fact, getting Kim’s look is as easy as buying a few good products and following a few good tips. Try these next time you want to look like a star when you go out.

Kim Kardashian Makeup

The smoky eye look never looked so good as when on the face of the lovely Kim Kardashian. Getting this look is much simpler than you may think. Start with a very dark smoky shadow in brown, grey or black for her look, and smear it on from lash line to crease, maybe going just over the crease. Once this is applied, line your lids upper and lower with midnight black eyeliner in liquid form – no need to fan out at the ends or anything. Layer two types of mascara like Kim does for a sultry and very plump eyelash look. Kim only uses cream blush for her cheeks, and she’s a big fan of sparkly eyes with matte nude lips. For nude lips, look for a matte lipstick in a nude color to match your lips. This brings out the work you’ve done on your eyes much more. Cream blush on just the apples of the cheeks for a pink glow that compliments her eyes and sets off her nude lips. Try these tips for a truly Kardashian makeup look at your next party.

Angelina Jolie’s Makeup Style, How to Get Her Look

Angelina Jolie’s Makeup Style, How to Get Her Look

A woman known for her neutral and classic makeup looks, Angelina Jolie stuns everyone at red carpet events, usually without much more work than we do every day in our own homes. Getting Angelina’s look, from when she’s walking down the street to her lighting up the red carpet, is much easier than you may think. With a few techniques to keep in mind you can look like her makeup artist is your own, and with not even as much effort.

Angelina Jolie’s Makeup Style Summer 2010

One of the signature aspects of Angelina Jolie’s look is her nude lips. Because her lips are so full, she rarely wants to play them up by putting bright colored lip sticks and glosses on them. To get her nude lips, find a shade of lipstick or gloss that is just a little darker than your lips. Use a lip liner that is close to the same color to trace in your lips so the lipstick will stay on longer, and boom! You’ve got Angelina Jolie’s nude lips.

Angelina Jolie’s Latest Makeup Look

Another great part of Angelina’s look is her sultry eyes. To get this look on your eyes, use a neutral or earth tone and a darker neutral liner. Smudge the eyeliner upward as you put it on, then apply the neutral eye shadow to your creases. For best results, try an eye shadow that has a bit of sparkle for a better night look, or play it down for a day at the office. Remember that with a dramatic eye you always want to keep your lips subtle, like Angelina Jolie does.

Invisible Makeup, How To Apply It For Naturally Gorgeous Look

Invisible Makeup – How To Apply It For Naturally Gorgeous Look

Some girls want to look fabulous for parties or for a night out on the town and will often use bright and sparkly colors. Other girls prefer a more natural look, especially for everyday activities. This is where invisible makeup comes in, and you can apply it and look gorgeous in just a few steps.
1) Cleanse: use a gentle cleanser to get rid of the oil, dirt, and dead skin on your face. Try not to use a harsh cleanser that will dry your skin.
2) Tone: using toner on your face will help to keep your skin firm.
3) Moisturize: this will help to keep your skin moist, and provide the perfect platform for smooth, even makeup.
4) Concealer: you can use concealer if you want to hide any imperfections like scars, blemishes or dark spots. This should always be put on before the foundation.
5) Foundation: apply foundation to your face, but make sure that the color matches your skin tone. Blend it in until it almost disappears.
6) Blush: blush is meant to add a bit of color to your skin and make you look more alive. Less is more, so use it sparingly on your cheeks.
7) Eye shadow: try to find a natural color that is close to your skin tone like brown or beige.
8. Powder: use translucent powder to dust your face. This will help to create a more natural look.
9) Lipstick: try and pick a shade of lipstick that is close to the natural color of your lips. If you are using lip liner as well it should be the same shade.
10) Eyeliner: if you are going to use eyeliner, try and do so subtly on the outer half of your eyelid. You may use white, black or brown to look more natural.
